At the heart of Birmingham is the fact that it is home to three universities which include the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City, and Aston all of which help to bring some friendly competitive sports to the town both in sports and just in atmosphere as the students interact with each other while out on the town.
The presence of the universities has also led to the city becoming known as one of the best student cities in all of the UK. In fact, in 2009 the city was even voted to offer the lowest living costs to students out of all the cities and towns across the UK due to the low costs of rent, food, shopping, and even going out. Even the activities are cheap and the rail system is excellent with links that all come out of the New Street Station in the central square of the city.
Finally, all of this aside, many students are drawn to Birmingham due to the fact that it is third in the nation for its high standard of living that consists of a great health care system, low crime rates, cheap food and drink, and the presence of great leisure activities.
