Days Out in Coventry

Coventry may be a small city, but it does have plenty offer a visitor for the weekend as there are a few historical sites to see and nearby there is Warwickshire county which offers a great deal of attractions of its own. The major attraction of Coventry is St. Michael’s Cathedral which sits in an old site of a Benedictine Monastery that was built during 1043 and founded by Lady Godiva herself. The building was destroyed by an air raid but the spire is still intact and often seen as a destination for reconciliation and peace.

The cathedral has also been rebuilt and sports several trademarks that make it a beautiful spot including a modern stained glass window and the fact that architecturally it was rebuilt north to south. Also outstanding is the Sir Jacob Epstein bronze sculpture that sits along its outside wall close to the baptistery window that portrays the Devil being defeated by St. Michael.

Outside of the cathedral, the Coventry Transport Museum also makes for a nice stop for a few hours as does the downtown area where almost all of the shops are locally owned making them charming in their own right and they mostly sell traditional goods.
