As part of the new £250m redevelopment investment into the Coventry airport as many as 10,000 jobs could be created for those who live near and in the West Midlands according to its new owner Sir Peter Rigby. Previously referred to as the West Midlands International Airport, the airport closed its doors in December of 2009 as a passenger terminal due to financial problems and became used solely for private jets and as a cargo terminal. However, Sir Peter Rigby announced that he will invest money back into the airport to help alter the unused land into a business park that will help the local economy.
Flights officially stopped flying into the port from Thomsonfly in November of 2008 after a public inquiry found that are residents did not want a new terminal built. The inquiry revealed that most local citizens of Baginton did not want another terminal built into the airport because it would cause too much additional noise to be added to the area leading to the solution of a business park just recently to make the airport property a contributor to the local economy instead of just wasted commercial space.
