Welcome to the information centre for the West Midlands European Structural Fund Programmes European Structural Funds were set up by the European Commission to help reduce differences in living standards between the regions of the European Union. The West Midlands region was awarded over £610 million of Structural Funds money under the new Objective 2 Programme. Together with the money available under Objective 3 there is a total of £915 million available until 2006. This funding enabled the teams to visit the similar Geneva project where they investigated that city's approach. Objective 2 funding is available for nearly half of the West Midlands population and aims to renew industrial, urban and rural areas. It is split into three priority areas. For more information about Objective 2 funding click on the blue tabs at the top of the screen. Objective 3 funding is delivered through the European Social Fund (ESF) and tackles long-term unemployment, helping young people and those at risk from not being able to find work, improving training, education and counselling for lifelong learning, encouraging entrepreneurship and adaptability in the workplace and promoting equal opportunities. More information about Objective 3 funding click on the yellow tabs at the top of the screen.
